"Bill" William R. DeWitt

-Guyton- Mr. Bill William R. DeWitt, 83, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.

Mr. DeWitt was born in Savannah, Ga on October 30, 1934 to Dudley and Gertrude DeWitt. He was a 1952 graduate of Commercial High School and a graduate of The Business of Banking School in Texas, The School for Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin and The American Institute of Banking. In 1952 Mr. Bill married the love of his life, Selby DeWitt, in Waynesboro, Ga and they moved to Effingham County in 2005. He was a member of the Sertoma Club where he served in many capacities. In 1989, Bill Dewitt retired from the Savannah Bank and Trust after years of service.

Mr. Bill loved Southern Gospel music, traveling with his wife in their RV, attending the National Quartet Convention, and participating in various church programs. Singing with a few gospel quartet groups, The Churchmen, The Lordsmen and Janet and The Coastalaires brought him much joy. He attended Aldergate Methodist Church, Cokesbury Methodist Church, Southside Baptist Church, Guyton United Methodist Church and Pineora Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Selby DeWitt; son, James Michael DeWitt;parents, Dudley and Gertrude DeWitt; and brother, Buster DeWitt.

Survivors include: his sons, William R. "Bobby" DeWitt, Jr. of Savannah, Ansley DeWitt of Atlanta, and Jeff DeWitt of South Ogden, Utah; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flower, Mr. Bill requested memorial contributions be made in his memory to Pineora Baptist Church, 131 Elkins Street, Guyton, Ga 31312.

Visitation will be held at Riggs Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, from 10 - 11 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be private.
