-Guyton- Mr. Bruce Earl Carpenter, Jr.,90, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Lakeview Manor Retirement Home.
Bruce was born in Marlow, GA on August 31, 1931, to the late Mrs. Bartow Helmey Carpenter and Bruce Earl Carpenter, Sr. and lived the majority of his life in Effingham County. He was a graduate of Guyton High School, where he played basketball, and was inducted into the Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame. After high school, Bruce attended Georgia Teachers College.
Bruce was also a lifetime member of Guyton United Methodist Church, the Guyton United Methodist Church Choir, and 55 Alive. He served in almost every capacity at the church, from Chairman of the Board to Sunday School Superintendent, Pastor Parrish, youth counselor, and as a Trustee.
Mr. Carpenter was a volunteer fireman for the City of Guyton and served in the Georgia National Guard. He was employed by Carpenter Electrical Company and C & C Electrical Supply Company until retirement. He was also a member of the Electrical Workers Local 613. Bruce never met a tool he didn’t like and was always ready with his toolbox to help anyone. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, Atlanta Braves fan and Atlanta Falcons fan.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan D’Angelo; sister, Mary Ida Phillips; beloved daughter, Pamela Carpenter; and infant son.
Bruce Earl was a loving uncle who leaves behind his Phillips and McDaniel nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30am on February 24, 2022 at Guyton United Methodist Church
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Bruce’s memory to Guyton United Methodist Church or to the Guyton United Methodist Church Choir, P.O. Box 85, Guyton, Georgia 31312.
