Cathleen "Cathy" Diaz

Cathleen Anne (Ross) Diaz, 63, of Guyton, GA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at her home surrounded by her beloved husband, Reinaldo Diaz, and her children and their families.

Cathy, as her friends called her, was born in Danbury, CT, on June 8, 1959. She was the daughter of the late Michael F. and Christine A. Ross. Cathy attended Danbury public schools and received her high school diploma from Danbury High School.

Prior to retiring to Georgia, Cathy was employed by Danbury School Lunch working in the kitchen at Broadview Middle School and until being promoted to Kitchen Manager. Several years later, she took an administrative role as the Office Manager for Danbury School Lunch at the Osborne Street Educational Services building from where she would eventually retire.

Cathy was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, and grandmother who relocated from Danbury in 2012 to Guyton, GA, so she could be closer to watch her grandchildren grow up. Cathy loved every moment of being a mother, however, nothing could compare to the joy that was brought to her by her three grandchildren as she always made sure to provide the family with the “play-by-play” of their activities. Cathy was extremely proud of her grandchildren and their talents including Aiden on the trumpet, Owen playing baseball, and Macie playing softball.

Aside from her grandchildren, Cathy loved her precious dog, Teddy Behr, and spared no expense to ensure he was taken care of. It is an understatement that Cathy loved QVC and never missed In the Kitchen with David , a trait passed onto her from her mother, having both necessary and completely unnecessary gadgets and thingamabobs. Cathy was an avid BINGO afficionado, sometimes playing nearly every day of the week and making countless BINGO friends. Cathy was a beautifully sweet yet stubborn soul who touched the hearts and brough joy, love, and laughter to everyone she met.

In the years leading up to her passing, Cathy was provided with round-the-clock care by her husband Rey. She always expressed her gratitude for his care and comfort, especially in the days leading up to her passing. Throughout their almost 30 years together, Rey and his entire family were a beacon of love and support. Cathy’s three children and her brothers could never express in words how grateful we are that Cathy has someone like Rey in her life. Cathy was thankful to celebrate their third wedding anniversary on August 13, 2022.

Cathy is survived by her husband Reinaldo Diaz and three sons: Jason Champagne, of Guyton, GA. Michael Champagne and wife Melissa, of Rincon, GA. Joseph Champagne and wife Ashley, of Ooltewah, TN. Her three grandchildren, Aiden, Owen, and Macie. Her two brothers Michael Ross Jr., of Whittier, CA and Stephen Ross and wife Jill, of Summerville, SC. Her beloved Maltese / Yorkie, Teddy Behr. Her Uncle Frank Ross Jr., Aunts Rose Marie Ross and Betty-Jane Ross, countless cousins, nieces, extended family and friends.

Friends will be received from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810.

Burial to follow at 11am on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bethel, CT .
