Christopher "Chris" Ford

Christopher “Chris” William Ford, 67, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 2, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Chris was an extraordinary carpenter; he could build anything and was often referred to as “one of the best trim carpenters” around.  He started his construction career early in life working with his father, Joe Ford, along with his big brothers, Jerry, Jody and Steve and built some of the finest houses in Hilton Head, SC.  Chris also worked for a number of years with Butch Kieffer Construction. He then started his own successful construction business and was also employed as a building inspector for the City of Springfield.

When Chris wasn’t working, you could often find him at his dear friends, Herbert and Irvin Zoller’s meat processing business helping them. While at home he enjoyed relaxing in his “Tiki Hut” with a cold beer. His beloved daughter, Gina (his heart, could be found with him until her untimely death in October of 2020.

Chris was a wonderful, fun-loving and giving person to everyone he knew. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Chris was preceded in death by: his father and mother, Joe and Cassie Ford; daughter, Gina Ford; brother, Jerry Ford; sister-in-law, Betty Jane Ford; and nephew, Curtis Ford.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his devoted girlfriend of over 20 years and caregiver, Holly Woods; bonus daughters, Tiffany Bird (Danny) and Ashley Conrad (Nate); precious grandchildren, Greyson Bird, Atlen Bird, and Genevieve Conrad that he treasured so much; sister, Betty Renfro (Dale); brothers, Jody Ford (Kitty) and Steve Ford; special friends, Melissa Harper, Sandy Higgs, and Al Boyles; faithful pup, Budman; and number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Carlson and Riggs Funeral Home on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 2 – 3pm with a celebration of life to follow at 3pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
