-Guyton- Mr. Claude Laverne Cavanah, 84, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Laverne was born and lived in Guyton all of his life. He was a 1948 graduated from Guyton High School and retired from the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was a member of Guyton Christian Church, an elder of the church, member of the christian mens fellowship and was the 2014 layman of the year. He also served as a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and the American Legion, Post 209.
Survivors include his wife, Claudia Ann Cavanah of Guyton; sons, Claude Franklin "Frankie" Cavanah of Smyrna, Georgia and Charles Ernest "Ernie" of Mannheim, Germany; daughter, Maria Claudette Rogers of Bloomingdale; sisters, Abigail Knight of Brooklet and Irene McCormick of Savannah; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Riggs Funeral Home on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. with internment to follow in the Guyton Cemetery, with military honors.
