-Guyton- Delma Smith Odum of Guyton, GA passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at PineView Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Sylvania, GA at the age of 96 after a lengthy illness. She was born the 9th child to James (Jim) C. Smith and Trudie Lanigan Smith in Bulloch County, GA.
Delma was a member of the Guyton United Methodist Church where she served on various committees. She was a member of the Guyton United Methodist Women and the Louise Stewart Sunday School Class for many years. She was also a member of the Guyton Women’s Club, the Guyton Red Hats and the American Legion Post 209 Ladies Auxiliary, Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Eddie Bryan Odum, Sr.; son, Eddie Bryan Odum, Jr.; granddaughter, Trudie Renee Meece; and sister, Betty Freeman.
Delma leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter, Sandra Odum Meece of Salemburg, NC; son, Jim Odum of Guyton, GA; and daughter, Sue Green of Lawrenceville, GA. A loving grandmother to Chrissy Meece Carr of Clinton, NC, Bryan Douglas Odum of Poulsbo, WA, and Bryan David Green of Springfield, GA; great-granddaughter Mary Elizabeth of Springfield, GA; and special friend, Mary Ann Williams of Savannah, GA. Her siblings, sister, Mary Gibbs of Issaquah, WA; and brother, Frank Smith of Clyo, GA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mayo Clinic Parkinson Research, Jacksonville, FL.
Visitation will be held from 9:30am – 10:30am on Monday, August 29, 2022, at Carlson and Riggs Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 10:30am in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be held at the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Statesboro, GA.
