Ernest LuReed "Reed" Pevey, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at his residence in Guyton GA. He was under the care of Ogeechee Hospice and spent his last few days surrounded by his sister, Jelane; niece, Audra; nephew, Stuart; and beloved friends and caregivers, Larry Findley, Jane Payne, Cindy Swimley, Maylynn Basak and Clyde Joiner.
He was born in Guyton on May 18, 1937 to the late Jasper Leslie Pevey and Lottie Inez Kessler Pevey and lived in Guyton and Savannah for most of his life. He is preceded in death by his sister, Irma Mosley Pevey; and brothers, Leslie Vernon Pevey (Buck), Wilton Wesley Pevey (Mutt), and Adrian Harvey Pevey.
Mr. Reed was a 1955 Honor Graduate of Guyton High School and Savannah Vocational School. In 1956, he went to work as the office manager of Coastal Butane Gas Company, where he retired after 28 years of service in 1984. Following his first retirement he became the Owner/Operator of the Village Wine and Ale store in Guyton GA that he ran for several years before successfully selling the business to return to work in Savannah. His final position was as the payroll officer at RSVP/FGP of EOA in Savannah where he retired for a second time after 11 years of service in 2008.
Mr. Reed was a lover of gardening, antiquing, and restoration of historic homes. He was a member of the Guyton Historic Society for several years and lifetime member of Guyton Christian Church. Additionally, he was huge pet lover and his beloved cats and dogs, Sandy, Happy, Beauregard, Ms. Kitty and Lady Ashley will also be interned with him.
Survivors include: his sisters, Quinell Pevey Sulivan and Jelane Pevey Battle; sister-in-laws, Rachael Webb Pevey and Betty Pevey Zipperer (Fred); nieces, Connie Mosley Turner (Mike), Karen Kathleen Sullivan, Cynthia Denise Pevey, Audra Battle Jennings; nephews, Wilton Leslie (Les) Pevey (Teresa), Adrian Michael Pevey (Angie); and a host of great nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 10am in Guyton Cemetery with Rev Joel Tucker officiating. All CDC and social distancing guidelines will be observed. The family request all attendees wear mask.
Pallbearers will be his nephew, Les Pevey; great nephews, Brandon Pevey, John Jennings and Stuart Jennings; good family friend, Tony Joiner; and of course his favorite cook and squire, Clyde Joiner.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in his memory to the Guyton Christian Church.
