Esther Belle Coursey Fort,85, born on July 29, 1939, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 4, 2025, at Effingham County Hospital, a place where she dedicated many years of her life as a compassionate nurse's aide. Her commitment to caring for others resonated deeply within her community and left an indelible mark on the many lives she touched throughout her 31-year career.
Family was at the heart of Esther's life, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life and echoed in her family. Esther delighted in various hobbies that brought her joy and relaxation. She had a particular fondness for crocheting, where her creativity blossomed into beautiful pieces and engaging her mind with word searches and piecing together jigsaw puzzles.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Perry and Minnie Ruth Boyles Coursey; brother, Robert Henry Coursey; and sisters, Mary Alice Thompson, Melinda Floyd, and Myrna Ruth Warf.
Survivors include her son, Herbert Fort, Jr. (Selena) of Guyton; daughter, Becky Smith (Derrick) of Effingham; brother, John Coursey(Robin) of Eden; sister, Joyce Fort (Wayne) of Guyton; grandchildren: Miranda Gillis (Kyle), Sarah Fort (David Mixon), Adam Smith (Britany) and Arron Smith (Melanie); great grandchildren: Jaxson Gillis, Daylon Mixon, Landon Smith, Chesney Smith, Lawton Smith, and Lainey Smith; special nephew, Kelly Fort of Shawnee; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home.
