Eunice Elois Berry Hawk passed away peacefully at Effingham Care Center on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on May 11, 1928 in Effingham County, Eunice lived a life characterized by her unwavering dedication to her family and her compassionate spirit.
Throughout her life, Eunice embraced her role as a homemaker and caregiver with grace and love. She devoted herself to caring for her handicapped daughter, demonstrating a profound commitment to providing the support and nurturing that her daughter needed. Eunice also spent many years caring for her invalid mother-in-law, showcasing her deep sense of responsibility and devotion to her family. Her selfless acts of service left a lasting impact on those around her, illustrating the extent of her kindness and strength.
In her younger years, Eunice shared many happy memories with her husband, enjoying camping trips and travel adventures that allowed them to explore the beauty of nature together. These experiences not only enriched her life but also fostered a spirit of adventure that she often reminisced about.
Mrs. Eunice was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where she found a sense of community and belonging. Her faith was an integral part of her life and guided her in her interactions with others. Additionally, she was a proud member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, participating in initiatives that honored and supported veterans and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jared “Irving” Hawk; daughter, Elaine Hawk Raymer; parents, Edmund and Julia Berry; and brother, Muller Edward Berry.
Mrs. Eunice leaves behind her daughter, Julia Elizabeth Hawk of Springfield; granddaughter, Kelly Raymer Kite and husband, Joshua Kite of Texas; great-grandchildren, Michael John Cox III, Colby Allen Cox, and Kelsie Elaine Cox; great great-grandchildren, Michael “Mikey” John Cox IV; and special friend, Sandra Burns.
A funeral service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 12Noon.
