On Wednesday, December 7th, 2022, Gary Allen Nichols, maybe better known as HogHead, passed away at the age of 63. Gary was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years, Patty.
Originally hailing from Columbus, Mississippi, Gary landed in Guyton, Georgia. Working as a foreman on the construction of the Talmadge Bridge, he met Patty, and the rest is history. Gary loved to create, and he was a master of his craft. He began his own construction company and built some of the most beautiful houses in the area. Once retired Gary enjoyed building simpler things. Need a fancy chicken coop or doghouse? He was the one to call.
Gary was a fan of V-neck pocket tees and if he didn’t have one, a t-shirt neck was getting cut. Oh, and don’t forget the Levi’s 504 classic fit jeans. He would tell you the classics never go out of style. Everyone who knew Gary knew he loved to be outside. Hunting, fishing, building, sitting; the outdoors was his home. Enjoying the outdoors with his family, teaching his wife, kids, grandkids, and friends how to hunt, duck call, choose bait, and how to crank up the Buck Truck was what he lived for.
Hoghead was as hard-headed as they came. Tell him he needed new boots, he’d say the duct tape was holding them together just fine. Tell him he needed to watch his health, he’d have Patty cook him up a cheeseburger and grab the Blue Plate mayonnaise. If you ever doubted him, he would say, “I can turn chicken sh*t into chicken salad AND make it taste good.”
We all know Gary wasn’t the fancy type and he wouldn’t want a big fuss. Instead of the traditional visitation and service his family invites you to go outside, cast a line, grab a bucket for a seat, and remember all the good times. We all know that’s what him and Patty are doing right now. Go Jeff Gordon.
