Gloria Delaine Priester Massey
October 10, 1942 — July 11, 2017
-Guyton- Mrs. Gloria Delaine Priester Massey, 74, passed away at her home on Tuesday morning under the care of Southern Care Hospice.
Gloria was born October 10, 1942 to her parents Angus and Bertha Priester in Savannah, Georgia. She attended Richard Arnold, Jr. High and was a member of the class of 1959 at Savannah High School.
Mrs. Massey worked as an owner and bookkeeper for several family owned businesses and retired as a court bailiff for the Effingham County Sheriff's Office. She served under Sheriffs Van Findley, Jay Space, and Jimmy McDuffie. She did her best work as a wife, mother, and nana. Her absolute joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Angus and Bertha Priester; all her siblings, Betty Priester, Doris Beasley, Arthur Priester and Sherry Bennett; two of her children, C. Edward Massey, IV and Robin Diane Massey.
Survivors include: her husband of 58 years, Charles Edward Massey, III; daughter, Teri (Elisa) Massey; grandchildren, Ariana Jayln Hope Massey, Danny James Massey, Jesse Stewart Massey, and Elijah Edward Massey all of Guyton; brother-in-laws, Robbie (Paula) Massey of Richmond Hill and Lehue Bennett of Savannah. She was the beloved "Aunt Dodie" to several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at Riggs Funeral Home on Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. at New Providence Baptist Church in Guyton. Interment will be held in the Guyton Cemetery immediately following the services.
In Lieu of flowers, the family would sincerely appreciate donations be made in memory of Mrs. Gloria to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
