She is survived by her daughter, Carol Martin (Bob) and two grandchildren, Toby and Julia Martin. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Tora Martin. Gwen was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and grew up both in Little Rock and Fort Smith, Arkansas. She proudly received an associate's degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Afterwards, she met and married her husband and immediately moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, the home of The University of Michigan. There, she worked for the Natural History Museum in the Ichthyology Department from 1950 to 1953. She often declared that their years at Michigan were the happiest of their lives. Monsanto brought Henry and Gwen to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1953, where she worked as a legal secretary. They made their home in Des Peres in 1956 and welcomed their daughter in 1959. She spent the majority of the following years as a homemaker and loved many friends. Meanwhile, she enjoyed supporting Kirkwood Baptist Church and the Association for Instrumental Music (AIM) of the Kirkwood School District. To be close to her daughter's family, she moved to Springfield, Georgia, in 2011. There, she received excellent, compassionate care at Effingham Care Center.
