Ivan (Ron) T. Mclendon Jr. ,age 65, died on the 16th of April in Savannah, Ga after a long battle with persistent health problems. Mr. Mclendon is survived by two children: Dax and Travis Mclendon. He also left behind two grandchildren, Carson Mclendon and Cash Mclendon; mother, Betty McLendon and two sisters, Hollis Stalnaker and Morgan Blume. Ron grew up in Savannah, Ga, the only son of Ivan and Betty McLendon. He enlisted in the Air Force at a young age and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Having completed his obligation to the Air Force, Ron returned to Savannah Ga to raise a family and became an active volunteer in the activities and lives of his two sons. Coaching baseball, and volunteering for Royal Ambassadors and the Boy Scouts gave him great pleasure. In addition to these activities, he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed taking anyone that was interested on camping and fishing trips. Ron was a legendary story teller and jokester. He could enthrall audiences young and old with stories of past events and tales of adventure. He could always be relied on to liven up a situation with enthusiasm and a good story. Ron was always fond of the waters surrounding Savannah and was fortunate enough to be named Captain of the Savannah Belles Ferry where he anxiously looked forward to going to work every day and meeting new people from around the country. Ron was also an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association where he shared his love for aviation and flying with close friends. He leaves behind a loving family that will always miss his energy and joy for life. Services will be held this Thursday at Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton, Ga. Visitation will begin at 5 P.M. with funeral services commencing at 6 P.M.
