Jacob “Jake” Dean Gililland, 29, passed away from Glioblastoma on Thursday, May 26, 2022, under the care of Georgia Hospice Care. He was surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, and mother-in-law.

Jake was born in Blue Springs, MO on May 7, 1993, to Michael Gililland and Sheryl Gililland. He lived in Harrisonville, MO most of his life before joining the military in 2012. Jake was a graduate of Harrisonville High School.

Although Jakes life was short, he had a dedicated work ethic with many achievements. He served in the Army for four years and achieved rank of Sergeant. During his time of serving, he was a Watercraft Operator. Following his military career, Jake joined the local police force. Starting with Savannah-Chatham PD in 2016 and moving to Chatham County PD in 2019 where he was a Sergeant. Working his way from patrolling the East side of Chatham County to becoming a General Instructor in the training division and being a part of Chatham County’s SWAT team. While on chemotherapy, Jake received the highest score in the class during General Instructor school. He was dedicated to performing at his best despite his illness.

Jake was dedicated to his community and his health. He had a passion for fitness and loved to help others become better. His goal was to become a personal trainer to share his love for training and to help encourage others to be their best self.

Jake is predeceased by his sister, Chandra Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Gililland; daughter, Kinsley Gililland; mother, Sheryl Gililland of Harrisonville, MO; father, Michael Gililland of Fulton, MO; brothers, Chad Graham of OK, and Shannon Graham of Adrian, MO; nieces, Stevi Graham, Kelsey Brown, and Amelia Dyess; nephews, Brendan Wilcox and Tyler Mercet; mother and father-in-law, Debora and Paul Dyess; sister in laws, Jamie Dyess and Katie Dyess; and brother-in-law, Michael Dyess.

A visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home, Guyton.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Bible Baptist Church, Savannah.

In lieu of fresh flowers, the family request house plants be sent in Jakes memory.
