Jason Wayne Britt, 45, died August 8, 2019, at Memorial Health ICU in Savannah, GA, surrounded by his family.
Born on February 14, 1974, in Montgomery, AL, Jason never seemed to mind sharing his birthday with the day of love. Not quite the outwardly affectionate one, Jason chose a witty joke, playful banter, some made up song, or the occasional rap lyric to express his love. Growing up in the Gump, Jason excelled in school and joined the LAMP program at Lanier High School where he graduated. He continued his education at Evangel College in Springfield, MO, where he earned his degree in Biblical Studies.
On a missions trip to Venezuela, he met the love of his life, Crystal Britt (DeLee). Though they met overseas, they quickly discovered that their hometowns were just over an hour apart (or less if she was late for curfew). Upon graduation, they began their first ministry position at First Assembly of God in Sylacauga, AL. They continued in ministry in Hobe Sound, FL, including not only church ministry but also social ministry in the Boys and Girls Club. They returned to Jason’s hometown to plant City Church Montgomery. While in Montgomery, Jason worked alongside his childhood friend growing Institutional Pharmacy Solutions and eventually Northeast Pharmaceuticals. Ultimately, they landed just outside of Savannah, GA with 3 kids in tow (Chloe, Ethan, and Cade). Jason developed a career as a freelance writer and continued his life in ministry through building connections with people who never thought they’d be friends with a minister.
He is preceded in death by his cousins Dara Chandler and Sara Rogers; his grandfather Quinton Allen; his aunt Karen Rogers; and his second cousin Shelby Chandler. Surviving are his wife Crystal; his children Chloe, Ethan, and Cade; his mother Leslie; his brother Matthew (Carrie); and a host of family and friends.
The Celebration Service of Jason’s life will be held at City Church in Savannah, GA, on August 16th at 6PM. Prior to the service the family would love to welcome any family and friends from 4PM - 5:45PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider helping leave a legacy for Jason’s children in a monetary gift.
We would also love to hear your stories of Jason. Jason was a storyteller. So, the family feels that it would be fitting for you to join in the story by sharing a memory of your own with Jason.
We will miss his laugh; his non-teeth showing smile; his wisdom on any topic (real or imagined); his festive holiday diddies; his fashion sense; and his passion for life, his family, and his God.
But we will see him again. As Stan Lee would say about the reappearance of a hero, “Jason Britt will return in the Resurrection of the Church.”
