-Springfield- Mr. Albert "Al" Mauro Jr., passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Memorial Hospital. Mr. Mauro was a Deputy for Effingham County Sheriffs Department, he served in law enforcement for 32 years and was a minister serving Turkey Branch Methodist Church, Silverhill United Methodist Church and numerous other churches in the area. He was a veteran serving in the United States Marine Corp., a member of Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Group and he was a member of Masonic Lodge #301 F&AM in Sylvania, Georgia. Survivors include: his wife Betty of Springfield; son, Raymond Al Mauro of Springfield; daughter, Sabrina Hopf of Rincon; sister, Debbie Steed of Guyton; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7 - 9 p.m. at Riggs Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
