Mr. George Levon "Pete" Smith, Sr

-Springfield- Mr. George Levon "Pete" Smith, Sr., 72, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.

Mr. Pete was born on January 30, 1945 in Screven County to James Clifford, Sr. and Nellie Mae Smith. He worked as a self-employed contractor, was of the Baptist faith, and his greatest loves were his family, his horses and pigeons.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tori Smith; brothers, HB Smith, Clifford Smith, Bobby Smith and Emory Smith; mother-in-law, Mardell Steed; father-in-law, Ed Steed; sister-in-law, Estell Weaver and brother-in-law, Danny Weaver.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ann Smith; daughter, Lisa Morgan (Billy); son, Pete Smith, Jr. (Theresa); brother, Donnie Smith; sister, Helen Oliver; sister-in-laws, Janice Smith, Sue Davis, Janet Tillman and Susan Steed; brother-in-laws, Walter Davis, Steve Tillman, Johnny Steed; a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his adopted family.

Visitation will be held at Riggs Funeral Home on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 3 - 5 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 3 p.m. with burial to follow in the Silverhill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
