Mr. Ossie Daniel Edwards, 86, passed away at Effingham Care Center under the care of SunCare Hospice on Thursday, February 6, 2025, with his loving wife and children by his side. Ossie lived a full and devoted life, cherished not only by his family but also by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ossie dedicated many years of his life to working as a self-employed logger, a profession that spoke to his strong work ethic and love for the outdoors. He took pride in his craft, contributing to both his family and the local economy through his hard work. In addition to his career, Ossie was a veteran “Tin Can Sailor” who served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959, embodying the spirit of service to his country.
Throughout his life, Ossie found joy in the simple pleasures that life offered, particularly the cherished moments spent with his family. He often delighted in feeding the fish at the family pond, creating lasting memories that his loved ones will carry with them.
Ossie was also deeply involved in his community, as a member of Clyo Community Church and taking on the role of Trustee at the Effingham County Methodist Campground. Ossie’s commitment to service extended to the American Legion Post 209, where he was a proud member and exemplified the values of camaraderie and support for fellow veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace Edwards; brothers, Thomas Graham, CG Edwards, Dale Edwards and Truman Edwards; sister, Linda Arnold; and grandson, Kyle Morgan Edwards, Jr.
Survivors include: his loving wife, Frankie Exley Edwards; children, Christie Collins (Larry), Kyle Edwards (Karmin), Wanda McDuffie (Jimmy) and Ryan Edwards (Linda); grandchildren, Troy Davis (Kysia), Chad Harper (Christy), Andrea McIntosh (David), Noah Edwards (Brittany), Kasey Sizemore, Kourtney Sizemore, Annsleigh Sizemore, Caleb McDuffie (Kadie), Samantha Easton (Clint), Jeremy Edwards (Korie), Danielle Gerrald (Brian), and Amber Edwards; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 2:00pm - 3:30pm on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 3:30pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Ossie’s memory to the American Legion Post 209, P.O. Box 214, Springfield, Georgia 31329 or to the Effingham County Methodist Campground, 306 West First Street, Springfield, Georgia 31329.
