Penny Newton Butler, 64, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Memorial Hospital, with her loving mother and sister by her side. Born on April 9, 1960, in Millen, Georgia, Penny filled her life with passion, dedication, and a great love for the outdoors.
Penny was a proud graduate of Effingham County High School, Class of 1978, where she laid the foundation for a life marked by achievement and connection. Following her education, she enjoyed a successful career in sales for many years at State Farm.
Throughout her life, Penny had an enduring love for horses, evident from her childhood memories of growing up with ponies at her side. She embraced every moment spent outdoors, taking joy in nature. Her dedication to her passions culminated in her proudest accomplishment as a Georgia state champion barrel racer, a testament to her skill and determination.
Penny was not only enthusiastic about her own interests but also deeply committed to her community and faith. She was a long-standing member of Pembroke First Baptist Church, where she participated actively in Sunday School and the youth group, contributing her time and energy until her illness prevented her from doing so. She is preceded in death by her father, Steve Newton. Survivors include: her mother, Margaret Newton of Rincon; sister, Renee McKenzie of Springfield; nephew, Jamey Garner (Kristy) of Springfield; and great nephews and niece, Travis, Lucas, Hadleigh, and Fendley.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at 11:00am in the chapel of the funeral home.
Interment will follow the service at Foy Cemetery.
