Phillip Brown, 91, a resident of Springfield, GA and member of Bethel Lutheran Church, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 7, 2023, with family at his side.
Phillip was born in Dallas, North Carolina. After serving in the United States Air Force, Phillip settled in the state of Georgia with his wife Bernice and young family. He was a loving husband and father to his sons. He was always involved in their sports and extracurricular activities as young boys and was a role model for them to follow as they grew into adulthood.
After retiring Phillip enjoyed staying active doing anything involving working with his hands. He loved working with wood. Whether creating cedar chests for his family, building a new carriage house, or splitting firewood well into his eighties. Phillip was a committed and active member of his church and was a friend or mentor to all those fortunate to have known him. Family and friends will dearly miss him.
Phillip leaves behind his children; Kenneth Brown, Robert Brown (Teresa), and Shawn Brown (Janet); Stepchildren, Christi Massey (John), Wendy Sheridan (John), and Craig Leifels (Ruth); In addition, a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and William Brown; his first wife and mother to his five sons, Bernice, his second wife, Elizabeth (Bette); sons, Phillip Jr. and Steven Brown; and siblings, Laura Paysour and her husband Raymond, and Samuel Brown.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Peachtree Memorial Park, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Norcross, GA 30092.
In lieu of flowers the family request any donation be made in Mr. Browns honor to The Fillin’ Station, P.O. Box 5, Guyton, GA 31312. The Fillin' Station is a local food pantry that serves families of Effingham County.
