Robert “Robbie” Ernest Salter,74, of Springfield, GA went to be with the Lord, when he passed away suddenly on Friday, September 2, 2022, at his residence.
God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be; So He put his arms around him, and whispered, “Come with me.” With tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we couldn’t make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
Robert Ernest Salter was born on December 20, 1947, to the late Harvey Salter and Sarah Waters Salter in Chatham County, Savannah, GA. He lived most of his life in Savannah and moved to Springfield after retirement. Robert was an excellent mechanic on anything put before him and he owned his own trucking business. At one time he was a deputy sheriff for the Chatham County Police Department. Robert also served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Hancock during the Vietnam War.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, a loving son, Robbie Salter of Rincon; Aurelia Smith Salter, the wife he married in 1970, after coming home from Vietnam; his beloved kitty cat, Tigger; sister, Shirley Carter of Savannah; and brother, Harvey Salter, Jr. of Savannah.
A service will be held at a later date.
