RINCON – Sallye W. Leonard Hilton, 85, passed away peacefully July 28, 2021 in Savannah, Georgia.
She was born August 6, 1935 in Abilene, Texas, was raised in Charleston, West Virginia, and raised her five children on the seacoast of New Hampshire. Later in life, she married Richard D. Hilton and moved to the Schenectady, New York area where they lived happily until his passing in October 2000. She moved to the Rincon, Georgia area in 2004 to be near her daughter and family.
Sallye worked as a matron for the Hampton, New Hampshire police department, worked as a professional administrator in the insurance and banking industries and for the Seabrook, New Hampshire Power Station for a number of years before retiring with her husband to New York.
She was known by her family and friends for her love of cooking, music, decorating, crocheting, college football, hockey, the ocean, camping, parties, puzzles and caring for her children, grandchildren and others. She attended Grace Community Church in Guyton, GA for a number of years and participated in the Coastal Georgia Red Hat Society. She seemed to never meet a stranger and shared her love of life with everyone.
Surviving are her five children; four sons G. Timothy Leonard, Andrew L. Leonard, Douglas K. Leonard, Eric S. Leonard and only daughter, Tamra N. Leonard Maples, nephew, J. Maltman, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 1pm – 2pm on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton, Georgia. The funeral service will be held at the same location at 2pm, immediately following the visitation.
The interment will be held at 12pm on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland, New York.
The family suggests remembrances be made to a charity of your choice, in her honor.
