Shirley Edwards Seckinger

Shirley Edwards Seckinger, 76, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Augusta, Georgia.

Shirley was born on August 6, 1945, in Shawnee, Georgia to Maddie Pitts Edwards and Shelley Edwards. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, David Seckinger. She is survived by her children, Derick Seckinger (Heather) and Shane Smith; grandchildren, Hailey Smith, Macy Smith, Madison Seckinger, Logan Seckinger, and Landon Seckinger, great grandson, Julian Miller; and her sister and best friend, Mae Morgan Hendricks.

Shirley began her career at the Garment Factory in Springfield, Georgia. Not long after, she discovered her passion for floral design and eventually began her 40-year career as a lead designer. Alongside this position, she began working as a school bus driver for the Effingham Board of Education and retired with 29 years of service.

She will leave a lasting legacy as a woman who loved her family fearlessly. She dedicated and sacrificed many hours to serve others and the community. Many will remember Shirley by her sense of humor and ease to stand up for what she believed in.

Effingham County will grieve the loss of this amazing mother, coworker, and friend.  Visitation will be held at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home on Friday, August 27, 2021, from 5 – 6pm with funeral services to follow at 6pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
