Teresa Ann Melton Coursey,55, of Guyton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Hospice Savannah, following a four and one half year battle with lung cancer. She was born March 31, 1962, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the daughter of Joseph Ray Melton and Joan Dale Harris.
Teresa graduated from Screven County High School in Sylvania, Georgia with the class of 1980. Teresa was previously employed with the Screven County Board of Education before becoming a 911 operator with Screven County. She then became a dispatcher for the Bulloch County Sheriff's Department until her marriage to Roger Warren Coursey. She was a member of the Bonaventure Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Colonial Dames of America, The United Daughters of the Confederacy, The St. David's Society of Savannah, and The Richard T. Turner Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also an active member of the Marlow United Methodist Church. She very much enjoyed traveling and following her bucking bulls and the PBR.
She is survived by: her husband, Roger Warren Coursey of Guyton; three children, Steven Lavaughn Griner, Jr. of Sylvania, Joseph Lee Griner of Louisville, Georgia, and Rachel Lynn Griner Mills (Ricky) of Sylvania; 4 step-children, Roger David Coursey of Jacksonville, Florida, Christopher Glen Coursey (Tasha) of Greenville, South Carolina, Kimberly Coursey Arnsdorff (Jake) of Rincon, and Benjamin Joseph Coursey (Melissa) of Savannah; two grandchildren, Hayden Riley Griner and Brock Steven Griner; seven step-grandchildren, Bryar Graham Coursey, Sadie Grace Arnsdorff, Kayne Radley Arnsdorff, Gatlyn Reed Arnsdorff, Hattie Jo Arnsdorff, Noah Benjamin Coursey, and Chloe Coursey; her father, Joseph Ray Melton (Dorothy) of Rock Hill; sister, Tracy Carol Crawford (Brett) of Oglethorpe; and two step-sisters, Jeanette Lewis of Rock Hill and Michelle Privette (Mike) of Rock Hill.
She is preceded in death by: her mother, Joan Dale Harris Floyd; sister, Patricia Lynn Melton; and two grandchildren, Eli James Griner and Infant Griner.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton, Georgia. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 26 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Riggs Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Edwin Willis and Reverend Dr. Rick Holt officiating. There will be no graveside services at this time, as Teresa will be interred in the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
