Vernon Charlie Knowles

-Springfield- Mr. Vernon Charlie Knowles, 83, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Knowles was born in Lakeland, GA and resided in the Lanier County area growing up. However, he had resided in Effingham County for almost 40 years. Vernon was self-employed for the majority of his career, to include being a diesel/dump truck driver and a diesel/auto mechanic for over 50 years. Most recently, he was the owner of a pilot car service. His first love was God; and he took every opportunity to share the Bible with everyone. Mr. Knowles was a founding member of New Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church in Springfield, GA. Among his other passions were being a hard worker in business and in the field and garden at his property, going fishing though he rarely got the opportunity because he was always working, and also "tinkering" with things. If they have cars in heaven, he is sure to be working on one right now.

Mr. Knowles was predeceased by his wife, Judy Knowles (September 21, 2007).

He is survived by: his children, Calvin Knowles of Lakeland, FL, Caroll Benton of Guyton, GA, Vickie Arnett (Dennis) of Guyton, GA, Wendell Knowles (Elena )of Garden City, GA, Marilyn Knowles (Shaun Thurmon) of Midway, GA; sister, Nelda Underwood (Paul) of Rincon, GA; brother, Troy Knowles (Sue) of Anniston, AL; grandchildren, Kyle, Cassie, Caylen, Lee, Chris, Jordan, Tyler, Kirsten, Sasha, Skyler, Josh, Emily, Garrett and Piper, great-grandchildren, Emerson, Aden, Helena, Madelyn and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday, October 21, 2016, at Riggs Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Riggs Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Dukes officiating.
