Wallace Preston Jackson

-Rincon - Mr. Wallace Preston Jackson, 72, passed away, at his residence on Friday, January 6, 2017.

Mr. Preston Jackson was born in Savannah, Georgia on September 25, 1944 to Wallace and Lelia Jackson. Preston lived in Rincon for a number of years. He was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, during which time he served in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he worked as a Marine Oiler for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Upon retirement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he worked for the Effingham County Sheriff's department as a Blue Coat from 2007 - 2012. He was also a member of Savannah River Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sybil Crawford.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Jackson; son, William "Billy" Jackson of Pooler; daughter, Jeannine Mikell of Atlanta; 3 grandchildren, Ashland Mikell, Katelyn Mikell and Jack Mikell all of Atlanta; nephew, Richard Crawford of Savannah and two cousins, Allen Harvey and Everette Goethe both of Savannah.

Visitation will be held at Riggs Funeral Home on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with funeral services to follow in the funeral home chapel at noon. Burial will be held at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia with military honors at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, family request that contributions be made to the Savannah River Baptist Church Building Fund, 7306 Georgia Highway 21 Port Wentworth, Georgia 31407 or to the charity of ones choice.
